Economic and social benefits
40. The Committee notes the State party’s efforts to develop strategies for poverty
reduction through income-generating activities and access to microcredit. It is
concerned, however, that some customs and traditions affect the social lives of
women and their access to economic resources. The Committee is also concerned at
the lack of information on the applicability of the Social Security Law (2012) to
women in the informal employment sector. It is further concerned at the lack of
information on the participation of women in the formulation of economic
development plans and at their limited access to credit and loan facilities.
41. The Committee recommends that the State party intensify its efforts
aimed at poverty reduction and sustainable development by facilitating the
participation of women in the formulation of economic development plans and
their access to credit and loan facilities. It also recommends that the State party
further intensify its efforts to eliminate all customs and traditions that
negatively affect women’s access to economic resources. The Committee
requests the State party to provide in its next periodic report information on
the applicability of the Social Security Law (2012) to women in the informal
employment sector and on proper legal remedies for women to contest the
granting of concessions and/or to obtain adequate compensation for loss of
land.
Rural women
42. The Committee notes the State party’s efforts aimed at promoting rural
development, including the issuance of farmland use certificates to women. The
Committee is concerned, however, at the low participation of rural women in
decision-making, in particular in the formulation of policies, and their limited
access to education, employment and health care. The Committee is particularly
concerned that rural women face difficulties in gaining access to basic services
