debt and other related international financial obligations of
States on the full enjoyment of all human rights, particularly
economic, social and cultural rights, Juan Pablo Bohoslavsky
Addendum
Mission to Iceland (8–15 December 2014)* **
Summary
The present report presents the main findings of the Independent Expert on his visit
to Iceland from 8 to 15 December 2014. The Independent Expert assesses the extent to
which Iceland has fulfilled its obligations to protect economic, social and cultural rights in
the aftermath of its recent banking crisis.
While Iceland managed the crisis better than many other countries and responded
overwhelmingly in compliance with its international obligations, the Independent Expert
identifies certain gaps that should be addressed. He recommends that the legal and
institutional framework of Iceland be further strengthened in order to prevent the
recurrence of a similar crisis and that attention be paid to certain vulnerable groups, in
particular highly indebted individuals; people living in rented accommodation; immigrants;
and children living in single-parent households.
* Late submission.
