The Committee considered the combined fourth and fifth periodic reports of Myanmar (CEDAW/C/MMR/4-5) at its 1407th and 1408th meetings, on 7 July 2016 (see CEDAW/C/SR.1407 and 1408). The Committee’s list of issues and questions is contained in CEDAW/C/MMR/Q/4-5 and the responses of Myanmar are contained in CEDAW/C/MMR/Q/4-5/Add.1. A. Introduction 2. The Committee appreciates the submission by the State party of its combined fourth and fifth periodic reports. It also appreciates the State party ’s written replies to the list of issues and questions raised by the pre-sessional working group and welcomes the oral presentation by the delegation and the further clarification provided in response to the questions posed orally by the Committee during the dialogue. 3. The Committee commends the State party on its delegation, which was headed by the Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Maung Wai, and comprised representatives of various ministries and government agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the M inistry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and the Committee for Women ’s and Children’s Rights of the Amyotha Hluttaw, Yangon region. B. Positive aspects 4. The Committee welcomes the progress achieved since the consideration in 2008 of the State party’s combined second and third periodic reports (CEDAW/C/MMR/3) in undertaking legislative reforms, in particular the adoption of the following legislation: * Adopted by the Committee at its sixty-fourth session (4-22 July 2016). 16-12871 (E) 060916 *1612871*
